Leonard Wood Hall of Fame

Leonard Wood
On May 22, 2012, Leonard Wood was selected to be in the inductee class of 2013 for the Nascar Hall of Fame. He will join his brother, Glen Wood, who was inducted in 2012. Theses are the first brothers to be elected to the hall of fame.

Earlier this year I visited the Wood Brothers in Stuart, Va. The brothers, were generous enough to allow me into the photo dan valley woods Leonard Wood Hall of Fame…..Wow…..Even an old man gets giddy sometimes……Another highlight in my life because I have admired both of these gentlemen for a long time.dan valley woods Leonard Wood Hall of Fame

The car in the background is the 2011 Daytona 500 winner. The camera was mine and the person behind the camera was Nancy Wood, wife of Len Wood.

Glen and Leonard, along with brother Delano Wood, accomplished unbelievable feats in the world of automobile racing. Many innovations in carburation, suspension and balance of race cars came from the Wood Brothers. Some of their engineering accomplishments were integrated into the mechanics of street cars.

The Wood Brothers played an important part in Ford’s coveted win at Indianapolis. They were called on to handle pit stops for Jim Clark’s Ford powered Lotus. Leonard Wood was key to designing and orchestrating the pit stops. This Indianapolis winning car sits in the Ford Museum very near the Daytona winning car.

Congratulations to Leonard Wood. He has accomplished much and gained many friends and admirers.
