Lowering Of The Flag Ceremony At Fort McHenry

woods-Fort McHenry Baltimore Harbor
Fort McHenry is the site which inspired Francis Scott Key in his writing of the Star Bangled Banner. During the War of 1812, Key was a prisoner on a British warship and witnessed the furious bombardment of the fort. There is a rather large American flag flying above the Fort McHenry Baltimore Harbor.

This is a photo which I took of the lowering of the flag ceremony at Fort McHenry near Baltimore. I was not aware of this, but there is a lowering of the flag ceremony in the late afternoon of each day. All of the tourist who are present at the time are invited to participate in gathering and folding the flag as it is lowered by the park ranger. It is an awesome feeling to take part in this event.

My family participated while I took pictures.

If you are in the Baltimore area, please consider adding a visit to Fort McHenry to your plans. It is a fascinating and beautiful place and very educational. Participating in the "lowering of the flag" ceremony is inspiring
